Warm Spot on the Floor: Is It a Hot Water Slab Leak?
A warm or hot spot on a tile, wood or concrete floor is one of the clearest signs of a hot water slab leak. Hot water escaping from a pipe under the foundation heats the concrete above it. Concrete holds heat. When a hot water line breaks under the slab, water at 120 degrees or more soaks into the soil and concrete around the break. The heat moves up through the slab and you feel it through the flooring, often as a patch that is warmer than the rest of the room.

What should you shut off right now?
Close the cold-water inlet valve on top of your water heater. This stops new water from entering the hot side, so the leak slows or stops. You will not have hot water until it is repaired, but you keep cold water in the rest of the house.
